Video Therapy & Telehealth
Telehealth that’s Convenient, Safe, & Effective
Serving Texas Residents
What is Telehealth?
Telehealth describes therapeutic and counseling services provided through technology. Distance counseling with the use of real-time video offers many of the same benefits as in-person sessions with the additional advantages of greater convenience & accessibility. Read on to learn more about Telehealth differences, challenges, and how to make the most of it.
I encourage my clients to treat distance therapy the same as they would in-person work, with mindful attention and intention.
FAQS about Video Therapy
How do I access the video session?
I use Doxy.me for virtual session. This is a secure, encrypted, & HIPAA compliant audio/video transmission platform that is easy to use. This is a real-time video that is NOT recorded. No download is necessary. Follow the link to my virtual waiting room, enter your name or initials, and I will start the session at the right time.
How is online different from in-person?
The good: often people report experiencing an increased ability to connect with their emotions and vulnerability in the safety of their own space. The ability to meet from home also increases accessibility for areas of the state where psychotherapy is difficult to obtain and for a greater opportunity to work with clinicians who can best meet specific needs. Teletherapy can be particularly helpful for individuals looking for immediate support following a recent traumatic experience or when leaving the house is difficult due to various barriers.
The less than ideal: sometimes important information like body language, eye contact, or subtle emotional shift can be missed or misinterpreted online. Similar to in-person work, I encourage transparency in the process - if something isn’t feeling right, let’s talk about it. Frozen screens, lags, and lost internet connections can happen at inopportune times. We will discuss a simple plan to reconnect and ways to have positive online experiences. Other considerations include privacy & confidentiality. Despite using secure programs, confidentiality breaches are more vulnerable to happening when transmitting information over the internet. You will also need to have an appropriate & private space to hold our appointment. All laws and ethical codes that protect your confidentiality for in-person sessions apply to Telehealth. Read in more detail the Notice of Privacy Practice.
Prep for the Best Online Counseling Experience

Find a place that is private and clear of distractions
Use headphones and adjust speaker volume
If you have trouble with the video platform, shutdown the program or restart your computer before trying again.
In-Office Support in Austin
In-office session offer the benefit of a physical and separate “container” for therapeutic work. For many clients, having a separate space for therapy is preferred.
